A Typical Day
A typical day in Recife starts with an early breakfast at the hotel, followed by our morning Team devotional, where we discuss how things have been going, enjoy some worship and prayer time, as well as review that day’s VBS activities. We will then grab our backpacks, load on the buses, and travel to Kid’s Place, which is what we call our VBS location.
Once we get to Kid’s Place, we will prepare for the morning VBS session with approximately 125 children. They are divided up into 3 groups with colored/numbered bracelets, so they can rotate through the 3 VBS stations, which are (1) crafts, (2) games, and (3) Bible stories (puppet show or drama). The kids usually arrive around 9:30 a.m. and everyone meets in the chapel (or largest space available) to sing songs, pray, and explain the Biblical message behind that day’s VBS activities.

Next, the children are dismissed to one of 3 VBS stations, where they will stay approximately 30 minutes before rotating to the next room until they have visited all 3 stations. Afterwards, we gather again in the main meeting room to sing more songs and review our Bible message for the day. Finally, we serve the kids lunch and they are sent home with their craft, as well as some kind of representative gift that ties into the VBS theme for that morning. At that time, the Team will eat a quick lunch, as we prepare to start the VBS program all over again with another 125 children that afternoon!
We typically finish the afternoon session around 5:00 p.m. and the buses take us back to the hotel to clean-up before dinner or that night’s activities. We try to let you go by 9:00 p.m. each night, so you can have some personal time to pray, read your Bible, and/or journal before going to bed. Every day is a little different and you have to be flexible, but this is what a typical day of ministry looks like while in Brazil.
