Abreu do Una - Fishing Village

Pastor Josué has been ministering to the small fishing village of Abreu do Una for more than 10 years. Even though he was just looking for a place to get away from the city with his family, God called him to plant and pastor a church in the Fishing Village, so they could hear the true, grace- filled message of salvation. This is in stark contrast to the works based, extremely conservative path to Heaven preached by other churches in the area.

VFC spent several years putting on 1 day VBS programs after teams finished their week long trips to Kid’s Place and Rancho Pitanga, but, in 2008, we sent our first mission team for a week of mission work. That week was so successful, we have sent one or two teams a year and watched this ministry grow. It became clear God was working in this little Fishing Village, so Pastor Josué was challenged to start a church in his home to measure the interest in planting a full-time church facility. After 4 years of faithful service, Pastor Josué was able to see his dream come to life when VFC purchased land and started building Community Bible Church. The Church was commissioned in March 2013 and the build out was completed in 2014.

Mission teams to the Fishing Village have done everything from VBS programs and sports camps to construction and discipleship training for men. In fact, the members of Community Bible Church just put on their first VBS program for the children of a neighboring fishing village in 2015 and they completely renovated an abandoned building in that town, where Pastor Josué is now preaching twice a month. Witnessing the children and families we have been evangelizing to for the last seven years, take up the call to love on and minister to their Brazilian brothers and sisters in Christ is humbling and so rewarding. Plans are for future teams to continue reaching out to our neighbors along the coast and sharing the Gospel.
